Im seeing possible gha and wire hair algae along with algae bloom. Is tank at or near a window?
Okay thanks! Would maintenance just be keeping the nutrient levels acceptable, shortening the lighting cycle temporarily, and cleaning manually (along with my 4 astrea, 2 scarlet hermits, emerald crab, and nassarius snails)? Does it look like I’ve let it get out of hand or is it a manageable level? Also I noticed some on my Kenya tree and it is NOT happy… any advice?Possibly bubble algae and hair algae.
Nope not near a window, but I’ve got pretty bright AI prime 16 on it on the saxby preset if that helps at all…Im seeing possible gha and wire hair algae along with algae bloom. Is tank at or near a window?
Are you using RODI water or tap water from the faucet ?
What is your phosphate and Nitrate levels?
Could use pics under brighter white lighting for positive i.d.
Phosphate is 0.05 and nitrate is showing at >50 but I believe I may have nitrites making the test inaccurateIm seeing possible gha and wire hair algae along with algae bloom. Is tank at or near a window?

Dont worry about nitrite unless above 120 but as suspected nitrates and Phos not yet high but getting there.Phosphate is 0.05 and nitrate is showing at >50 but I believe I may have nitrites making the test inaccurate
Assure your water from LFS is not elevated with nitrate and Phos levels which does happenNope not near a window, but I’ve got pretty bright AI prime 16 on it on the saxby preset if that helps at all…
I’m using premixed saltwater from my LFS
I will check my phosphate and nitrate levels for now, tank is def due for a water change which I am doing tomorrow when the LFS is open
Would the peroxide be okay for the corals glued to the rocks or would I have to take them off? I seem to be a clutz who can’t remove glued frags without hurting them T~T also I will test the water right now, the kits I’m using right now are Red Sea and aqua forest for phosphateDont worry about nitrite unless above 120 but as suspected nitrates and Phos not yet high but getting there.
I would suggest taking each rock out and placing in a container of tank water and scrub with stiff toothbrush and a little peroxide and return to tank. Turn white light off for 3-5 days and add snails such as Ninja star, a pencil urchin and some trochus snails as well as caribbean blue leg hermits

test it when you get home
What test kits are you using ?
Peroxide ok. Its mainly water and acts as an oxidizer for the algaeWould the peroxide be okay for the corals glued to the rocks or would I have to take them off? How much peroxide should I add per gal?Peroxide ok. Its mainly water and acts as an oxidizer for the algae
.5 m/l if you add more than that- should be fineHow much peroxide should I add per gal?
Just to clarify we’re talking about hydrogen peroxide right. Just want to be 100% sure.5 m/l if you add more than that- should be fine
Yes and standard 3%Just to clarify we’re talking about hydrogen peroxide right. Just want to be 100% sure
Okay awesome thank you so muchYes and standard 3%
Couldn’t go to the store right now as I drank after work, so no driving of course, but managed to snag an online grocery order for delivery within the next 2 hours so I will update after scrubbing the rocks!Yes and standard 3%
I remember something years ago about using peroxide for corals but not to let it come Into contact with the fleshy parts . Perhaps I’m thinking of something different?Peroxide ok. Its mainly water and acts as an oxidizer for the algae
Usually I feed the corals 2-3 times a week but other than that no food is going into the tank since it’s currently fishlessNothing a good scrubbing of each rock in a tote of tank water couldn’t cure.
I’m completely opposite when it comes to chemicals.
I’d try everything possible prior to dosing
If you don’t correct the route of the issue the same thing you’re dosing to correct will return later .
this case excess nutrients and lights are food
Sources for most algae
what’s your nutrient import compared to export ?
Heavy feedings means heavier filtration , water changes skimming and even clean up
Crew are needed
Update! Scrubbed them all down and it looks so much better now! <3Couldn’t go to the store right now as I drank after work, so no driving of course, but managed to snag an online grocery order for delivery within the next 2 hours so I will update after scrubbing the rocks!
