Hello.

I started my tank a couple of months ago with the zeolight system.
I used a base of dead rocks to build the reef and added just a couple of fresh live rock.
I was prepared for some nutrient problems so I have boosted the filtration with some extra zeolith and some carbonsource dosing. But now an issue has occured.
I have very high nitrates (50 according to salifert test) and 0 i phosphates according to Hanna ULR.

How would you suggest me to proceed to get nitrates down?

Hi Curtus,

What are these other carbon sourced products you are dosing?

Zeolith alone will not reduce NO3. If you use Bakto Blend and Bakto Therapie, that will stabilize your nutrient cycle and lower your nitrates. Another product which will do the job is Reef Vitality.

Thanks for your reply.
I habe used both ultrabak and redseas nopox just becouse I had these at home.
I have alot of reef vitality at home. Should I increase dosage of RV?

My watervolume is aprox 800Liter.
I dose 1 capsule RV together with 4spoons of coral balance every 4th day.

Should I channge the dose or just add Baktoblend and baktotherpy?

I do also dose 1,5ml every second day of UltraminS and 3ml/each of Coral colours every day with a automatic doser.

Best regards Patric

When did you realize that NO3 was at 50ppm? What are your NO3 levels, normally?

Your current dosages for RV, CB, Min S, and CE are correct. Do not add too many different nutrient reducing products to your tank because it can cause drastic swings in your NO3 levels which can harm your coral. If this has been an ongoing issue for more than 2-3 weeks, then it will help to slightly bump up the RV dosage.

I started this tank in November and becouse I chose to use dead rock I was prepared to have high degrees of NO3 and PO4. So I have since the beginning treated the tank with the double amount of Zeolith stones aswell as daily dosig of UltraBak and also Nopox(I had a bottle of nopox so why not use it I thought).
The tank has been fairly stable at around 25ppm NO3 and around 0,05-0,08 PO4.
I noticed that the phosphates were at 0 and Nitrate at 50 just the other day when I came and saw one of the Acropora loosing tissue.

I appriciate your advice. I will boost the RV dosage and keep the other dosage the same as before. How potent is Reef Vitality? Could I just ad 1,5 capsule instead of 1 or should I go wih 2 capsules straight away?

I have stoped dosing UltraBak. Should I decrease the amount of Zeolith to normal dose aswell?
I have been dosing UltraBak and Zeolith according to the Ultralith manual instead of the Zeolight manual.

Best regards
Patric
