What is that???

Well not all isopods are the happy little creatures we have in our tanks. I'm pretty sure this video is of a Cymothoa exigua....a parasite isopod that attaches to a fish mouth.....pretty gross!

Thing is nuts. I've seen pics and I always check the mouths of my fish when I can anymore lol

The isopod attaches to the base of the fishes tongue and causes it to atrophy. The bizarre part is that the fish is able to use the isopod like a normal tongue to eat...

A member of one of my local forums has had the displeasure of encountering a tongue eating isopod on a wrasse in QT (see pics below).







You have to admit, that one in the second pic is kinda cute. ;)
