I feed mysis, Rods herbivore mix, and a pinch of reef roids when I remember, that’s about it!

You are correct, and I believe that was what @Mastiffsrule was suggesting. We eat the food and feed the coral. Trick is to have a large enough tank so you can swim in it like the fish doo.
