Why would you think that? It just stops accepting new phosphates, so if you keep putting more in the tank (through food, or leaching from rocks, or from dying algae, or whatever) then once it's full, of course PO4 will increase. That does not mean the GFO is putting PO4 back into the tank.Gfo will leach phosphates once it is exhausted!
Kgk I disagree I believe it's true that phosphate leaches back out of Rocks and sand once it's at bad levels

Come to think of it. Why would you leave exhausted gfo running on your tanks?
U don't. I change the GFO when I notice a abnormal amount of algae build up on the glass. And that's usually about a month worth of use before it gets exhausted on my setup.
