Hello Reefers - So, I've had this tank set up for approximately 3 years. Recently, I adjusted the lighting from my AI automated lights and believe that is the potential cause of this algae?

I'd like help identifying the following algae;

- Algae shows up when lights are on
- Algae goes away when lights are down
- Algae doesn't appear to harm coral / fish

What I've done over the past few weeks;

- Eliminated all "reds," lights (read this would increase algae)
- Done 30% water changes weekly for the past 3 weeks

****anything thing I'm not thinking about?

Pics below;

White, red and green channels can add to algae issues. You didn’t post your parameters. Do you know what your nitrates and phosphates are? Algae’s will consume those the most.
The pic makes it look like diatoms, but it doesn’t sound like that’s what you have. Does it get slimy or stringy with bubbles during the day? If so, it might be dinos.

TJ - thanks for the information...here is what I'm showing for parameters;

Hardness - 180
KH - 180
PH (- 8.5
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 40

Have not experienced anything like this before and the water changes don't seem to make a difference which is also a "first," for me.

I'm not sure what the phosphates are...don't have a way to test.
