not sure what the consensus will be on this one but It makes me feel better to clean everything with water/bleach. hosed out with tap water then last a rinse or two of RODI. Ive only had smaller tanks where it isn't much of a problem. If it is a larger tank then a spray bottle with bleach/water might be simpler. Im sure many out there abhor the idea of bleach but like I said it made me feel better and no problems afterwards.

just saw a tank on the pet store shelf that had bugs in it, so just not confident these things are kept as clean as we like

If new, rinse well with ro di, no soap or chems, if used, do it twice.
I like wireefers suggestion of vinegar if used.

Brand new. Thanks
Brand new I wouldn’t use vinegar doesn’t need it. Would just wipe down any dust or particles throw sand and water in your good to go. That’s what I have always done.
