im looking into setting up a qt tank soon whilst my aquareef 400 is cycling.
I also have a 130l freshwater tank running that I was going to get rid of but thought I could use it as my qt tank as it's an AIO.

As the freshwater tank is already cycled, would I be able to just empty the tank and fill with saltwater but still use the filter media which is already in there?

You could probably use the same equipment, but I'd think that you'd need another cycle as saltwater nitrifying bacteria are different from freshwater nitrifying bacteria. I've used Seachem's Seed with good results; there's considerable debate as to how good any of the "rapid cycling" products actually are.

Ah ok, had a feeling that might be the case but I suppose I was hoping it wasn't haha. Was planning on having a smaller qt but as the freshwater already has everything I need I may as well just use that.
Thanks for the advice

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
