SCIENTIFIC NAME –Chaetodon lunula

COMMON NAME – Raccoon Butterflyfish

SIZE – 7.9" (20 cm)

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE – 75 US Gal. (284 L)

FOODS AND FEEDING – The Raccoon Butterflyfish consumes marine fish, crustacean flesh, mysid shrimp, and frozen preparations. Should be fed a minimum of 3 times per day.

REEF COMPATIBILITY – Not safe with most corals and invertebrates, except well armored crustaceans.

CAPTIVE CARE – The Raccoon Butterflyfish will attack and eat stinging sea anemones. Very small and very large specimens of this fish sometimes have difficulty acclimating to captivity, so care should be taken to ensure the specimen is eating prior to purchase. More than one adult can be kept in a large tank, as chasing of each other and members of their family is observed without damage on occasion. This species is peaceful with non-related fish species. (Similar species – Chaetodon fasciatus, Red Sea Raccoon Butterflyfish)
