Nice! I went the lps and zoa route for a few years and got bored. Now I'm just a glutton for punishment...lol

See I was the opposite. The sticks have nice growth but anyone who viewed the tank jumped right to the flowy large polyp stuff and then I started wanting more of that.

Yeah...the non reefers are drawn to the flowy stuff like moths to a flame..lol. you could have pulsing xenia next to a colony of whatever expensive acro you can think of.....pulsing xenia wins every time. The acros are for me. The challenge and coloring up are something no non stickhead will ever understand. Admittedly, I used to scoff at sticks and think they were boring..which..on the surface they are.

I tossed my GSP out for that reason. It did look neat on a little island dead center, but having thousands in livestock for someone to comment immediately on my GSP.....

I dose AFR 5x per day and kalk on the hour. It still isnt enough to keep up without WC. AFR doesnt contain potassium, so eventually youll need to consider doing something about that....

What works. Works. I would encourage a simple $50 ICP since its only another couple mins of time, everythings always great, until its not. Thats the hardest part to this hobby IMO.

If it's mostly lps then it's not that demanding....in our cases we need to supplement for sure

Thanks for the tip. I have been considering a icp out of curiosity but I feel by the time I get the results it’s already inaccurate. And then I would get hooked into getting them regularly to see the patterns

Your parameters won't change too much in a week or two with those corals in the tank. So the icp would be fine....it's fine for me in a tank with more acros than gallons of water....and it burns through elements.

Its just good to know if youre going on years without WC. $50 for a data point, dont have to take any action based on it, although corrections in that case can save a reef.... or crash one too lol.

It’s on my to do list. I don’t know what company to use. I was thinking the one on moonshiners site

Ive done a couple trident and ati. Both took identical duration to results. ATI has more information and free test of your RODI included. Also able to plug directly into reef moonshiner calculator. I plan to stock with ATI on a go forward myself.

I don’t use rodi. Will they test my tap water lol

DO YOU USE A PAR METER WHEN PLACING NEW CORAL IN YOUR TANK?

  • Yes! I think it's important for the longterm health/growth of my coral.
