I also havea stainless steel bone cutters, but it can't handle the thick branches

Interesting about cutting the acro base off the plug. I’ve just been cutting the stem off the plug and gluing that way.

What’s the advantage of cutting it at the base from the plug?
Ive done it that way too, but then I’ll bring the epoxy or the glue all the way to the base to cover it.
The advantage is that’s where a lot of nasties hang out and dips don’t kill eggs and typically eggs are down there.

I also shake mine pretty aggressively in the dip using forceps.
Really beating up those corals on arrival.
