I just filled up my tank and I plan on mixing the salt in the tank with powerheads. My question was whether i should run my canister filter at all to help mix? If i do shoyld i take anything out if the filter?

mix in separate container... always.... most salt mixes will have 'residue' that settles out and you dont really want in your tank

Being that you did mix the salt in the DT I'd run some sort of mechanical filter for awhile. Like mentioned above just to remove the "crud." Once things clear up though give the media a good rinse and then decide whether you want to run a mechanical filter 24/7. Some do this, (sock) some don't. I prefer to let everything just float freely. (until it's time to do a water change) This is when I put that mechanical filter to work. GL.
