New to aquariums and just experienced a a tank fracture in a 60 day old aquarium!. The fracture is in one of the rounded corners and runs from the top of the tank to the bottom of the tank. All of a sudden we heard a "pop" and discovered water gushing out of the tank.
Water everywhere.
We have two fish, three corals and live rock.
I have drained half the water out while also using strap tie downs to squeeze the fracture back together as best as possible. With the decreased water pressure and the straps, water is now only dripping out of the fracture. I applied waterproof silicone to the outside of the tank. I am trying to keep the fish and coral in the tank until tomorrow morning and I can get to the fish store.
Will my fish and coral be okay without the filter or heater running until late tomorrow morning when the fish store opens? Water level is too low for the filter to run.
I figure my fish and coral are better off in the half full tank versus going in a five gallon plastic bucket with their usual salt water until tomorrow morning. Should I move them to the plastic bucket?
Why would a 60 day new tank just fracture like this? Should I even try to get the same tank or is it a flawed design?
Thanks for help.
Tom
