Tank canopy questions

I'm starting a FOWLR in a 29G. I was given a Reef Octopus BH-1000 skimmer which I am excited about, however the opening in the current canopy doesn't have enough space for the intake and output. It's wide enough but not deep enough. I bought an all glass canopy at LFS but again, the plastic strip that you can cut out for equipment is only 2". Not deep enough.

Diy screen top is your best solution. You can customize it to fit properly, also this will help you with gas exchange.
