I removed all the rock and I'm emptying the tank and found this. What is it?

Out of curiosity, where do people stand these days on sand sifting cucumbers nuking tanks? I've had 3+ feet of tiger tail cucumber in every tank and it hasn't been a problem, but am I asking for trouble?

For a short response on my opinion - there's some risk, but it's manageable with preparation (i.e. manageable if you put nem guards on powerheads, cover your pumps and pipes, have carbon you can run if needed, have saltwater you can use for an emergency water change if needed, etc). The risk does vary by species though.
