Tds in brute trash container?

My tds comes from the rodi unit i have by hrs 0 on the inline tds meter. When it gets to buce it shoots up 1-2 tds higher than the brs unit? Is it safe to use and fill my saltwater tank? I tested my water in a clean cup also its 0 tds

Sounds like your trash can needs cleaning out. Maybe something got in there at some point.

1-2 TDS could be entirely harmless. It just means there's a bit of non-water in your water. The question is what that non-water is.

RO/DI is like a sponge, it will soak up even dust in the air from sitting. Brute trash cans are not air tight, so a little bit of household air(ever see the dust in the air in your house?) will get in there raising your TDS.

As said above also, ever mix salt in that barrel? Will contribute to TDS too.

RO/DI can absorb TDS from the environment, but not all TDS is harmful. How long has the water been sitting in that brute?

It's fine. RO/DI at 0 ppm TDS can take up 1 ppm TDS just from CO2 in the air.

I wonder this a lot. My house is pretty old, there’s dust everywhere. I try to keep on top of it but find myself wet wiping it up every couple days.

when I switched to open top tank, I wondered how much impact this falling in my tank would have.

I’m such a freak with keeping my tds @ 0 aswell prior to using it.

Day 1….RODI in the bucket, sealed, 0 TDS going in.
Day 7….that same water is say 7ppm.
And so on, normal, no worries.

If you are coming out at 0tds and the can hasn't been contaminated with anything other than salt water. Questions arise like do you rinse after every batch? Plastic isn't 100% sealed. It is a porous surface that will capture and then release existing salt creep and minerals naturally as water sits in it. I'm going to go out and say it won't matter. Any dust your mixed water would pick up your tank will be exposed to as well.
