Hello everyone, I started my tank 1 year ago, and I procrastinated on making a build thread. Now I am going to do it.

Here is a picture of the tank: Updated February 2024

Part 1: The setup:

12/26/19 to 1/27/20

My tank is a 75-gallon Marineland overflow:

With a metal stand that I picked up at my LFS.

For the sump, I got the eshopps r-100 sump

The light is just a simple reno light strip with blue and white LEDs.

Amazon.com : Aquatic Life 420403 LIF Fxtr Reno LED FW 36in Light : Pet Supplies

For the rocks I got 70 lbs. of BRS reef saver dry live rock, the package that It came in was full of peanuts.

For the aquascape I made a tower in the center on purpose, so when I got my 2 hydra 32s the light would intersect in the center creating a high-par hotspot for SPS (and don't worry I got a par meter and measured to make sure).

When I liked the look of this aquascape I put the rest of the rubble rocks back down in the refugium section.

Part 2: The cycle

1/29/20 to 2/10/20

Sorry, it's been a bit since I last posted. The cycle for this tank was pretty simple, I just filled it with saltwater and put two clownfish in (small, ocelaris, captive-bred), two red leg hermits, and two nerite snails. I did not add any bacteria because my lfs said "your live sand has plenty of bacteria". I think that this was a mistake because it may have taken more time for the tank to "mature". Here are some pics.

Uh-oh, cloudy, first time with fish:

Clearing up now:

Settling into the new home!

Recognize this picture?;)

After a week or so I got diatoms, I contacted my lfs and they said to get some sand sifters(blue legs and some nassarius). My nitrates were around 5-20 and my ammonia was pretty low (0-0.2)

Great build So how long has it ultimately been running with everything up?
I wish I could’ve had my 75 drilled when I started it up, but oh well, it is what it is.

What other inhabitants are you planning to stock?

New tang doing well, and other firefish too:

I just ordered Sodium triphosphate, Sodium silicate (diatom bloom for dinos), and calcium nitrate. Trying to get my nutrients up. Also grabbed some MB7 and plan to culture some phyto (prob nanno, but I don't know; suggestions are welcome).

I stopped skimming, turned off whites, and turned off the fuge light; the corals looked much happier. I think the biggest problem for me in the past few years has been low nutrients, and I think if I can get that within my control, I will have a very successful tank.

Phyto culture! I just had a bottle turn dark green within four days, believe it’s because I have it in a tank of water that’s constantly ask around 78°, because my room is too cold to grow the phyto.
