Tube Anemone- Tube coming apart?

I've had this guy for about 9 months, it's a great eater and has survived/thrived during a couple of tank swings. Yesterday I noticed it had retreated into its tube, today it looks like the tube is coming apart. While typing this post, I also caught my Foxface nipping at the tube. Top pic from today, the other is from August. I can see the orange tentacles down inside. I appreciate your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, and expertise.

I'd try housing him in an appropriate sized piece of PVC to protect from nipping fish. I house my purple one this way. He seems to love it.
