Hey everyone.

I introduced a, what I was told, a unicorn tang 2 days ago.

The fiest day after temp acclimiation, and water test, she was shy at first but eventually was swimming freely and eating well.

However that night she picked a corner by the overflow, changed colors and wasnt really moved since.

She eats still but not swimming as before.

Should I be patient, do another water test??

The other fish in the tank are a pair of black occi clowns and they dont seem to bother her. Ive tried turning the wave pump down, off to see if she would change her behavior but nothing.

Any suggestions?

always post the parameters of the tank.
Its the first thing to look at.

Did you check the salinity of the tank and the water the fish arrived in?…

It’s almost guaranteed the fish came from lower salinity .
As long as it’s eating , let’s hope it’s getting enough nutrition to be healthy

Those spots are stress marks and allow fish to get used to tank, reduce white intensity slightly and focus on water quality and mainly diet
What foods are you feeding it?

Frozen misis for now, do you have any recommendations on other foods?

These fish are herbivores and at minimum, you want to feed them:
-Spirulina brine shrimp
- LRS Herbivore diet
- small plankton
- Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
- Hikari Marine cuisine
- Formula 2 flake and frozen
- Hikari veggie marine

Add selcon vitamins to the foods 2-3X per week and on alternating days, garlic extract for stamina and immunity health

Always good to ask and test the salinity from the LFS
many run at 1.20 or lower.
Since you’re at 1.024 that’s about a two hour drip acclimation.

Its a pain but i’ve found doing that new fish are less likely to turn up dead a few days later for no apparent reason.

Oh wow.. im new to the game but been reading as much as I can.

I am working on transforming my old nano into a quarantine tank.

So before the quarantine tank you would drip/temp acclimate?

If I had a QT I would drip acclimate to the measureme to regarding salinity and temp into the QT.
You like will have closer parameters in the QT compared to the DT

Quick Update:

Little "Uni" (my daughter named her!) Is doing much much better.

Today Im picking up a variety of foods for the fish, hopefully she'll continue to get more accustomed to her new home.

So far so good

Well..bad news. Little Uni didnt make it last night.

Water test:

Temp 78*
Ph 7.8
Sal 1.026/1.027

Ammo, nitrite, nitrate: all at zero

Test kit: API master kit

She was swimming upside down before perishing.

The other two clowns are fine. Salinity to high???

Im at a lost. Not sure what could have happened.

Recent changes

1. 20 % water change (sea water, I dont mix)

2. Added some cocopods

3. New foods: seaweed sheets, salterwater assorted food pack.
