DATELINE LOS ANGELES: Sources close to online marine livestock vendor Unique Corals indicate that an "unknown source" has apparently penetrated some of their 30-foot-long coral raceways with a submersible camera, to reveal sensitive, "raw" spy footage of some of the many pieces that supposedly are yet to be added to their inventory. These grainy, unedited photos apparently show "insane" "high end" Zoanthids, Palythoa, Chalices, and what Unique Corals' Scott Fellman called, "most compromising" shots of frags of what might be the coveted "Red Dragon Acropora" which the firm has been quietly farming for some time.
According to Fellman, "With the leak of these photos, it's likely that people will be aware that we have many more unusual items coming...Way more stuff than anyone ever knew we had on our website, Unique Corals Home Page ." It's probably one of the most revealing looks yet at some of the previously unseen corals that are in Unique's 6,000 square foot, 14,000 gallon plus Los Angeles-area facility.
"This could change some hobbyists' impressions of us." Unique's Joseph Caparatta said flatly. "People already knew we have an insane variety of corals on a regular basis. With the release of these photos, the public may see that we're obsessed with providing a wide variety of highly sought-after corals to the hobby. I mean, it's been rumored in hobby circles for some time, but man..."
Authorities say that Unique apparently does have some "killer stuff". When pressed to reveal if there were more crazy corals out there that we have not seen yet, Fellman would only state, "Um, yeah. There are others..."
What does that mean for the hobby, industry, and coral fanatics that have long suspected that the coral industry's "Area 51" has more tricks up its sleeves than previously imagined? We'll just have to see in the coming weeks.
In the mean time, here are just a few of the leaked photos:
