Does anyone know the rules of bringing marine fish across US border to Canada? For example buying a clownfish from the US and bringing it across the US border to canada

Fed side no import license if declared for personal use. And look at fed rules thru Website for more info and call too. If on CITES Appendices, you'll need permit number from importer of that fish. I'm more familiar with import of corals, probably wrong.
Now State rules, you need to get familiar with your state rules. Every State different.

What ever you do, when talking to customs, choose words wisely. They will ask questions like, "why didn't you buy them in USA?" Don't say cheaper in Canada.

Fish are pretty easy. It’s not really worth trying with corals.

I live in Michigan and my brother lives in Canada, he drives over all the time and brings fish back. The key is for personal use and have a receipt from the store.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
