What does 100/150lbs of rock look like?

Hey all,

Getting ready to order my rock, but as this is my first reef I don't really know what 100lbs looks like...

Does anyone have photos of 100 or 150lbs of rock they can show me so I can get an idea of how much I want for my 5x2x2?

It’s 1-2 lbs of rock a gallon

Rock varries in size and density. Go to Bulkreefsupply.com and look at their videos they have several and you will get an idea the sizes and weights of different rock.

For a rough estimate, #50 is approx 1 X 5 gallon bucket full of typical marine rock. Actual density and volume will vary by source.

It is going to vary a lot of the size and composure of the rocks. I ordered 150 lbs of dry Pukani and some of the pieces are over 24" wide and about the same in girth. I mean I could use them for front yard landscaping if truth be told they are that large. Ok, I'm stretching it a bit but you get the idea.

I agree it will vary by rock, but here is another example of 100-110 lbs. of rock sitting on a folding table within a 4'x2' footprint. It was my original rockscape.

The big point is - different rock types have very different amount of open space inside. I’d use the BRS videos and product descriptions for the various rocks.

Here’s 75 pounds pukani which literally filled a 75 gallon tank. So I ended up with only 50 pounds used.
