OK thanks.. should this be a concern? I'm new to the hobby and every time I see something new I automatically think it will harm my tank

My experience has been that they tend to reproduce prolifically in tanks actually. On my old tank I had to scrape them off the glass regularly, and they formed high concentrations in higher flow areas like pumps and skimmers.

That said, they are absolutely harmless, and help filter the water.

harmless filter feeders and they don't live long not due to lifespan but rather starvation. If you feed tank less, they will starve off. They can also be safely scraped off

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
