Good pre-thoughts, but they move whenever and however they want.

I've made "spots" for nems I thought they'd love. Ha.
Yeah, I am really getting the sense the nem is gonna just peace out and go where he wants XD. i get the sense they're much like cats... you spend all this time making the kitty fort and they want to sit in the box

haha yes,

They can be controlled to some extent.

But i've also had one move across the entire tank to go back to where he was and be like "guess this really was the best spot" haha.

Only reason I'd add nem before corals is placement. If you have a bunch of expensive SPS and the nem kills them while he moves around you'll be sad.

Guaranteed softies and some LPS will be easier to keep than a nem. But again those can be killed by a nem too.

However if you can keep a hammer and frogspawn and torch alive and growing, you'll probably be able to keep a BTA too.
actually, I really like soft corals. don't know if I plan on going into stony corals at all. I know most people want to keep those, but they just don't give me that same sense of awe that softies do. I am starting to think I definitely need to add the nem first though

Any euph sorry Euphyllia is the full name. should be nem resistant for the most part.

They're technically an LPS and have the best "wavy" effect over softies. IME, they also like similar conditions to nems.

I will definitely look into that thank you! I feel kinda bad choosing less on what is better and more on what I think looks cool, but I just love that motion.

The specific gravity of natural seawater (you know, from the ocean...the place where these things originate from) is 1.025 -1.026...it makes perfect sense to keep them in something lower than that for optimal health. :D
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not, but if it is it is highly appreciated XD

I’m two months in on my 46 bow front. Started w/Carib live sand and 25 lbs lr 25lbs Marco. Started with Eheim 4+ 600 canister but just after the 4th week around when cycle completed I added a 10g diy baffle kit sump. I struggled a bit with nitrates at that point so I made the center section as big as I could for a base of marine pure blocks and Chaeto/sea lettuce mixed half and half. Nitrates totally gone and now I’m seeing purple speckles on the glass. I’ve wanted anemone day one too. My clowns look ridiculous dancing in the corner of the tank all day. Lol. But you’ve got some things like alkalinity dosing and other nutrients it would need to thrive. I’ve read lots about them and can’t wait to have one for my silly clowns. Purples just coming in now and I’m the guy that is always looking for the next thing that is going to crash. I’m going to wait those 6 months myself. Need more practice.

So, Nem first then coral?

Step one would be fixing your salinity.

Step two would be your choice. I have no patience so if it were my tank I'd already have corals in there. I've had anemones and they caused me nothing but grief. Corals > Anemones any day. :)

I just think anemones look cooler. that's just me, and I'm willing to put in the work. as far as salinity goes, yes, obviously first thing is raising that, but like I told the other guy, I'm doing that intentionally right now.

Sigh..I give up. * walks out of thread *
bye! if you can't understand that I've said multiple times that basically everything I've seen recommends running fish only 1.020-1.024, and that I was also told that by a guy with a masters in aquarium science, and that I will continue on my current trend of slowly raising it to levels corals like, then you have nothing to add. sorry, I don't know you from Adam

If your coral does not like the condition it is in, it just die. For an anemone, if it does not like the condition it is in, it move. Large anemone can cause a lot of damages moving. They often moving they often seek higher flow and move into the PH or over flow. When they think the condition is really bad, they just let go and flow a way, right into the PH or overflow.
Puree anemone can cause a lot of damage. The nematocysts of the anemone will be release to the water of the tank and can kill all the fishes in the tank.
If you know what you are doing, and start the tank with great LR and the tank is stable right away, you can put the anemone in the tank but as a new reefer, and not having really good LR, I recommend not put one in until you know how to keep your tank running smoothly and keep it stable. How long is that? It is all different for different situation.

I recently started a 65 gal tank the end of July 2020. I started this tank with sand from the beach of the Gulf of Mexico and LR I put into the Corpus Christi Bay for a few months. It only take a few hours to get the sand and the rock from the Ocean into my tank and the tank did not cycle, and teaming with life. After a week, the tank was staple with minor died off. In this situation, I put two S. giganea into this tank right away, they are doing great. Here is the few picture of the anemone when I first put them into my tank and a recent video of the tank.

Due to their large size, and their ability to move around and cause damage, and their demand for generally stable, good condition with good water movement and high light (specific condition varies depends of the species of the anemone) it is generally recommend that host anemones should not be keep by novice reef keepers.

This is definitely a case of "do as I said" not "do as I do". Picture of tank at about about 2 weeks old, but very far from a normal reef tank:

Recent video of tank at about 3 months. There are two Green Gigantea in that tank, but the second one is behind the rock and cannot be seen from the front.

This is awesome, never thought of putting LR into Corpus. Only a few hours out from me.
