White Fuzz Balls on my urchins spines...what is it?

My 3 y/o Urchin has suddenly developed some white fuzz balls on his spines...saw an older thread on the topic but no legit thoughts on what was causing it. Anyone have any insights here? is this like an urchin 'ick' or some fungus that I need to treat?
