Why does my cheato float?

I'm not sure what your doing for flow in your refugium, but a ball of chaeto that's filled with bubbles would cause it to float. Maybe give it a good shake and see what happens.

Hmm...not a bad idea. The only flow is the return pump, but it moves the surface of the water very fast.

I agree that chaeto floating shouldn't be a big problem. If you can make it tumble at the top of the water, that might be the ideal scenario
