Young YB Blue hippo Gil infection

Had this blue hippo for months, he has developed some infection in his gill that seems to be eating away his skin.

Is this the development they get typically when they’re older from stress ?
Seems like white fuzz is coming out of it almost like a SPS having RTN but it’s only on one side of his body

Is there a treatment or do I rehome? Our plan is to go 180-220 in a year so I wasn’t worried ab his size but if he’s getting this from tank stress I will get rid of him.

Includes FTS for anyone wondering size , rocks , fish , flow etc

Looks like an injury which may have developed bacterial infection as they’re notorious for wedging themselves within rocks

That would make sense, she wedges in a spot on the rock that is right when she gets scared and sleeps in it.

I agree that this looks like a bacterial infection.

It isn't HLLE as in your example picture.

You can't pre treat the nori with anything, as it will just rinse right off in the water.

It is unlikely to be due to wedging itself in the rocks, as that is their normal behavior in the wild, and that doesn't cause that issue for them then.

If it is getting worse, your best course of action would be to treat it in a hospital tank with a broad spectrum, gram negative antibiotic. Kanaplex is one option. I usually try Neoplex first.

As mentioned and as Jay mentioned, you need to treat in a separate tank. No need to tear your tank down. A quarantine tank can be as simple as a tank from a second hand store or a starter kit from Walmart which most of the needed essentials.
