The LFS's by me have been getting in quite a few Australian acropora spathulata. I never saw them before, I actually thought they were millis. They look similar except they are thicker branched. Just curious if anyone has experience with them and can comment on growth rate, color retention, longevity etc.

I picked up these 2 yesterday (cell pic). The color looks better in person

Rich..I have a one for a year or so..it was bright yellow..it's up high with strong flow, my thinking was thick branch =strong flow and bright yellow strong light.... I would move it lower, but it's well encrusted down now....hoping it will recover...here is a crappy pic after a few months of getting it..

I have not had much success with this species in captivity.
I think unique corals has a few colonies of this that they frag once in a while but i was unable to keep the color they had obtained under high watt halides.

I just got in two different spath frags, fragging them made them very angry Caus they both browned. Both have started to color up pretty quick.

I actually split small colonies with a buddy. The owner of the shop has a band saw and sliced it for us in the shop. Very clean cut.

Here's a pic of ours. It came in from LA Diver's Den as a small, rusty brown colony and slowly colored up over several months:

They need super high light, I have had two different frags for three+ months and just in the last three weeks they have begun to regain their color. I just got in a
new colony, I hope it keeps it's color.

That's was the LFS told me. I have them high under a 250w but switching out to 400w radium next week .

Nice fine, the color looks really nice, you are lucky to have LFS that sells these corals.

Just to update, the blue spath looks like crap! I have it very high up under a 400w radium and I still lost color. The orange one looks ok. I hope to get the color back on that blue spath one day because it was really an eye catching piece :( :) I actually fragged off a piece and placed in my frag tank under an ecotech radion just to see if it responds better.
