Hello all,

New to the community and am setting up a new tank, Aquatop 24gal AIO.

I got some rocks that are dry-ish from a friend and need to clean to get it ready for cycle. I'm mixing my own saltwater and already have live sand.

The question is, should I just fill in the tank with live sand and saltwater, while the rocks are cycling? Also is vinegar, and bleach the only way to clean and get rocks cycled?

Or should I just scrap the whole thing and get new dry rock?

Sorry this post is a bit all over the place, but hoping to gain more knowledge from all of you here!!

Thanks!

I would just scrub and then bleach the rock, rinse it well and leave out in sun to dry for couple of days.

Can you post a picture of the rocks you are wanting to clea?

Some rocks were harvested from the ocean and are no longer available. If you have true live rock I would clean and recycle it. If you have mined rock that was used in your buddies tank I would toss them out and get new dry rock to start with.

As far as cleaning up rocks you can just use a stiff brush and fresh water to remove any debris from them, rinse them thoroughly and put them into the new tank. Bleach and vinegar are not necessary

Freshwater filter only or is it? Have you ever used an HOB filter on a saltwater tank?
