This is a great idea to clean the sand! How long did it end up taking you and was the cheese cloth sufficient in keeping the sand in the bucket?
I was running a bucket about 20-25 minutes and that did pretty good. Still ended up putting the smaller buckets into a 5g and rinsing a few more times with our home RO water to clean it up a little bit from the well water. It’s not perfect and it’ll require some settling but it got quite a bit of the nastiness out.

No sand got through. There was a bit that made it through the first layer of cheesecloth, but didn’t penetrate much beyond that. I’ve got a ton of layers though.
