Kessil LED's did great for me with my acans. No loss of color and no morphing whatsoever. I had Kessils over them for a year. I switched to Radion abd they all morphed orange and orange red and green. To much par and I was running at 25-30% and fixture was two and a half feet over the sand bed. I went t5 and within a couple days they were turning back. I got my yellows and purples but it took awhile to get the deep reds back. I will be adding a reefbrite soon as well. If I ever go LED again, I will go with Kessil for acans.

I agree Ben. Acans need lotsa blue to retain color. Here's some of mine under t5, 3 blue +, 2 act and one coral plus for my sps. Excuse the valonia. I currently have a foxface eradicating it. Again, many of these lost the coloration under Radion. They came back to this under t5. Some of these I brought in after I went back to t5

I kept some acans under g1 radions and they lost color, replaced those with pros and it came back. Violet and more blue is important in the LEDs (400-430 nm spectrum)

Under Hydrs 52s for maybe 4 months? I took these back to the LFS who fragged them up for me and bought one frag for what I paid them. They said they've never seen them color up like they did under my 52s. There are colors in there you can't see with this iPhone photo.

Thanks for all the feedback.
That initial pic I posted was t5 to answer the question. Lots blue n purple...

I'm not all too familiar with the Radion g1 vs pro.
-It seems some people are having success with the pro. Customize-abilty (sp) on spectrum, correct?
-I assume the radion nano will have the same cabability/programmability as pro. Can anyone confirm?

Was this 25% intensity or color? I have the darndest time with my acans atm. I have a shallow tank (36Lx10Hx16W) with only 8 inches of water depth and my two A360WE's about 8 inches about the water line. My colors are poor over all. I've moved some around to more shaded areas with some levels of success. I just turned mine down to about 35% intensity and 35% color at "high noon". It's much more blue in the photo than in reality.

These have been under Kessil A350 for about 6 months, I've seen no color loss

When I was running a 9" high tank, I had my Kessil 12" above the water and running about 45% and my acans loved it.

Sorry no pics to share but I learned the frustrating way. I had to turn my led fixture way down.

sorry for the mini hijack but for those who did lose color, if you were going to add T5's to the LEDs what bulbs would you recomend? I have 2 reefbreeders over my tank and I am toying with the idea of making a canopy and adding a few T5's

Thanks! Might have to look at moving them up I guess. rest of my Zoa's, Frogspawn and SPS are doing fine. Espcially my Zoa's, they are looking great and growing like weeds. I might have to rearrange my rock work to create some more shade.

I had g2's and I did notice a lot of color morphing. I switched them to a 20k and beyond spectrum and gained some color back. Last month I decided to add 2 t5's with the radions. I haven't noticed any big changes, but some of the rainbows are looking pretty good. Pics when I get home

Have to be very careful with acans & blastos under led. Even on my sand bed about 24" down I still lose some color. After speaking with a collector & diver at a coral expo, he said they are generally found in low light areas under ledges & such where sometimes you can barely see them. I've never dove, so this is here say as far as I'm concerned. But I've since put my scans in the shadows, & they seem to hold color much better. Like way better.

Yes. Most rainbow acans lose color when they get into our tanks from the wild. Thats why people like to buy aquacultured rainbows. I've tried shading mine under leds, but I don't think it was enough light
