Are these prices serious? Who buys this stuff?

Woah, that's pretty expensive for nice but not great pieces.
That was 150 down from 300. But I'm Australian, overseas pays huge export prices for corals, Same with us an imported fish I guess

I have wondered that myself, who is buying those. I don't know anyone personally who has dropped that money on coral like that. Wwc has eBay auctions where you can get coral at ok prices. I wonder if they don't have those crazy priced on the site so they can say later "what a sale, 60% off deals!"

Would you happen to have pics of your client’s presumably gigantic tank? I’d love to see that

Ha it’s a 220 this picture is after I cleaned out about 20 pieces of dead coral. Stuff constantly dies because it’s all piled to close to each other and I do my best to keep everything balanced but it’s tough with how much he adds

You should have seen the prices at Reefapalooza. I talked to a guy that was debating about spending $900 for ONE polyp. I also saw an Aussie gold torch for about $3500. Didn’t have the heart to tell the purchaser that I bought a smaller version for $80 at my LFS.

While I might not like it, the prices are what some people will pay so prices will be "high" as long as that is the case.

However, I do agree with some others about pictures with colorization that may not be a reasonable representation of the actual coral.

I am literally speechless. Am I missing something. $800 for a single head torch. $500 for an average trach?
They went down the wrong road recently. The past month I've been checking their website, and magically everything was over a hundred dollars. Theres been quite a controversy over this on social media post. 800 dollars for a common green torch is disgusting btw. Hopefully this doesn't drive people to start getting greedy

I run a totally different business,(HVACR), so if demand pays for the supply, as the old saying goes, "let them eat cake." Its what the demand willing to pay. I started and stopped 1983-1990? Corals then nothing what's out there now

Jake Adams mentioned some of the crazy prices of corals at RAP Orlando in one of his recent videos, especially torches.

Seems like you just gotta shop around, my LFS will have a solid deal on one type of coral, but then want $150 for some other run of the mill coral, just gotta know what stuff is really wort..

All about the bragging rights! I went to wwc last October and spent under $200 and left with over 10 frags. Mostly softies and zoas. Alot of small $5 and $10 frags. The fun for me is watching them grow out but unfortunately we live in a world of instant gratification! It all depends on what makes you happy!

JMO :)

I pretty much think most reefers , at least the smart ones , don't buy corals off vendors web sites on a daily basics ,, pick a vendor , watch their site ,, corals sit there months ,, then the Live Sale comes along ,, prices are lowered ,, they sell out of everything they have ,,,

Its a win win for the vendor ,, they sell all all their corals at one time ,, make their money and only have to pay labor cost for about 3 days packaging and shipping corals out ,, then spend the next 4 months fraging corals and getting ready for the next Live Sale ,, if they sale the odd coral off of the site in between Live Sales ,, they make a extra 50% on their money :)

I went to their farm opening a few years back and there was a guy who was debating on spending $1800 or $2000 on a 1/4" chalice frag -__- !!! I guess I just work in the wrong industry lol.

I get some things being really high price eg established SPS colony’s but I got a torch that looks the same as the Aussie pink tipped torch colony for like 30AUD so like 15 USD so that is weird

It seems like this is a debate every other month. So many vendors do this but world wide gets the bad rap. How many vendors were at reefapalooza that had expensive prices, let's ridicule them too. Also, if you work at a fish store and are complaining about world wide prices, c'mon. I'm sure your boss would charge more for nice colonies as the demand sees fit;). Just like top shelf, world wide and other nice stores in Orlando, they have expensive colonies and affordable coral in the store. Who cares? If your judging a store by some coral online and you haven't actually shopped there then it's really a moot point. There will always be coral out in the market that others can't afford no matter where you shop. There is coral I can afford and coral I cannot afford, it's never made me upset. Anytime we've shopped at the big stores in Orlando we've always left with a few bags under 200 dollars.

The crazy prices are driven, in part by the Indo ban. Shipping from Australia is very expressive and reflects in coral coming from there. I only hope at some point we see the ban lifted.

In the meantime, it's a local frag farmers market. More common corals sell well through these guys.

I only buy what I like and let it grow into colonies. Fortunately for me, I like more common corals.
