I'm going to use a 15 or so gallon tote as a reservoir for two ATO's. It's going to be in a corner and kind of a pain to open the lid to check the water level. I was thinking of using a clear tote so I could always see at a glance what the water level is in the reservoir. With the clear tote, it will be exposed to some light so there's the issue of algae. The amount of light it will get is negligible but I'm still wondering if I should still go for a black reservoir and find another way to keep track of that water level? Any thoughts?

Go for clear. If need be, clean it as required. It will be negligible as you say. Keep it simple!

I went black and just fill mine every weekend,,, with the knowledge that, full, it could roughly last 12-14 days or so.
*not knowing the water level at a glance hasn't bothered me but everyone's different in that regard
