Cycling on a QT Tank

if a fish becomes ill and or new fish in the qt tank for the hob filter I have could i keep a small bag of some type of bio media and remove it from the sump of dt and insert it into the qt hob then sterilize when done with quarantining procedures?

Sure you can move some.
But from there, I take no further risks.
I discard anything porous.

The QT does not require a bio-filter you can just change some water daily.
