My female clownfish (less than 1 year old) appears to have killed her partner (same age). They were both DaVinci clownfish.

I was reading that you shouldn’t mix species of clownfish. In that I shouldn’t add a tomato clownfish for example.

From what I found, the “regular” clownfish and the DaVinci clownfish have the same scientific name.

Am I correct that I could try to pair my female with a “regular” clownfish or is it recommended ti stay with a DaVinci?

Thanks!

I have mixed ocellaris without problems. Some have suggested that if there is a dominate colour difference between them it’s harder but I have never experienced this. Any ocellaris should be fine. These two are about as different as it gets and paired quickly over ten years ago.

Thanks! It was a total surprise to me to find the male dead :( Nothing else in the tank would have killed it.

I'll try a new clownfish and find a small one so the hierarchy can be established quickly. If this one doesn't make it, then I probably won't try to pair again.
