DIY Amethyst crystal light

Does anyone have any experience using amethyst or other gems in their reef tank? My goal is to get a piece similar to the photos and drill a hole and attach a waterproof led to it. Hopefully making the stone glow.anre there any drawbacks or negative impact on the tank?

Most gems are ok. We’ve had threads on them. Amethyst is fine.

They may go dark due to being covered with coralline.
