I used my first diy sock for a week.
The ring using rigid tubing is too flimsy for a 6" sock (ring needs to be 7" diameter), so I just used the ring from my old filter sock, and attached a new diy sock to it using zip ties. This is a way better setup if you have an old sock with a plastic ring to use.

this is what the sock looked like after using for a week. I think it works really well. I am just tossing used socks out. That was the whole point I went with DIY. No more washing of filter socks.

I'm going to make the sock length 12" on my next batch. This way I can make 12 socks per yard instead of 8. less than 21 cents per sock.

Slick Idea

For the rings I'm thinking about just getting some large diameter PVC pipe and cutting it into rings on a table saw

I had filter socks that had a rigid ring on top that the socks were attached to, I just cut the plastic ring and it actually works better than I expected to keep the shape. This was a great idea. I found the same exact material at Joannes. Of course it wasnt on sale, that junks expensive without coupons lol. Thanks for the idea, gonna save tons of money!

Brilliant idea, I have some 4" ID Pvc that is probably a 1/4" thick that could work as rings if I can get them cut into 1/2" slices!

I cut 4" pvc on chop saw 1/4 think snipped a opening to slip on sock I started doing this from the original post on here ended up going with mesh I have two 1 inch overflows draining in with low flow on each side and the felt socks would clog up quick with low flow moving through the felt

That is exactly what I had imagined doing myself!

For all those that can't make socks try this web site. WWW.filterbag.com they make all kinds of filter socks and different Micron's if you buy by the case most socks are less than $4. Bucks. They don't make the square socks from eshops. You can only get those from eshops.

I used a piece of acrylic and a short section of 4" PVC as a ring to hold the socks. I can replace them one handed this way :)

So what does everyone wash their filter socks with?
