have a 250l aquarium with a lot of lps and some sps, currently no fish but that will come. The aquarium is completely silent except for the protein skimmer, havw a deltec 600i with dc pump.

can I ditch the protein skimmer and only have refugium or is protein skimmer best? The choice is between refugium which I know is silent or spend 800$ on Royal exclusive bubbelking 130 dubbel cone (that i think is the moust silent you can get)

I have been skimmerless for > 30 years. Not sure how silent a standard refugium is, considering water falling 2’ from display to sump.

Not knowing your system or your level of experience, I caution you on not having sufficient gas exchange in your closed system.

A skimmer is not a requirement. Many people run successful reef tanks without them. I am currently running skimmers on my tanks but have ran without them for years with no problem. I also run fuges on all of my tanks but IMO they are poor at nutrient removal but awesome for housing small life forms like pods, micro brittle stars etc.

I have been running a coral-only 120 setup for months. Getting a wrasse soon, though I still have been feeding the LPS quite alot daily. Haven't turned on the skimmer since spring. My nutrients have been fine

I don't hear any noise from that skimmer, when the cabinet doors are closed it would be no noise at all. Im assuming you want the room to add the refugium in its spot?

You can always have the skimmer on just at night for oxygen purposes and leave the main waste handling to the refugium.
