Genicanthus Angels reef safe?

Is it true that all Genicanthus Angels reef safe?

What's your opinion?

I am looking to get an angel for my reef. I am reading good experiences with the Bellus Angel.

i believe they are reef safe mainly because they dont usually live where reefs are
theyre deep water angels and my FAVORITE ANGELS!!!

I have never really looked into angelfish because I was afraid of them but I am reading very good stuff about these types of angels.

Does anybody have a list of angels in this category? Also would I be able to get 2 different types for my 120g?

I am looking for a pair of these bellus angels if anybody knows where to get them.

I have had Bellus and Wantanabi pairs. Wantanabi pair I got 5 years ago, I added the Bellus last year. The Bellus beat the snot out of the Wantanabi pair so they went to the frag tank and eventually back to the LFS. The Wantanabi pair missed the beatings so much that the male decided to go look for the Bellus (he did not find them in the only place he looked, my carpet.

Go for the Wantanabi!!! They are soooo beautiful!! I have hear nothing but good things about the Genicanthus Angels.

the lamarck's and swallowtail are in the same family - I have heard good things about them as well.

The thing I have noticed about most angels is they all pick, we'll so does tangs, but angels pick worse than tangs and even if they do not eat coral they keep it upset to where they never open and then usually die. Also most angels are mean. I currently have a 4 inch Keyhole Angel with a 5 inch Clown trigger and he holds his own. Keyholes are very aggresive.

genicanthus arent the same as centropogye and since no fish is 100% reef safe its like 99% reef safe
the bellus angel is my personal favorite, watanabei are ok but i just like that red and blue coloration in the bellus female
this is probably the only genus where the female looks nicer than the male!

Well i found 2 female bellus for $89 each. I am thinking of getting them and waiting for one to change to male. What do you think?

I had 2 female swallow tails, I thought one would turn, like Anthias, but no luck. I had a friend with a 450 that bought 2 females in the hope one would turn, no luck. I don't think the angels turn as readily as others do.

Beautiful fish, and they were great in my reef. I lost both to a heater failure... :mad: it got to cold!

the genicanthus species does change from female to male, dont know why they havent but theyre supposed to
i think they change late though becaues ive only seen fairly large males, ~4"+

I've also had the watanabei for over 2 years and never seen them pick at anything. But then I also feed the tank like it's their last meal

My favorite genus!!! I am on a quest to get a Japanese Masked Swallowtail pair. I have had a regular Swallowtail pair and they were awesome until the female got a taste for my Aussie acans. Then I had to get rid of her.

I'll keep my eyes open for a pair. They are available fairly often. They are planktivores so typically reef safe. A pair isn't cheap though...~$3-400 more than likely.
