Hello all my tank has been running for 4 weeks, 1 week with fish in it. I put in two clowns last Friday one seems to be thriving and eating everything while the other hasn’t eaten much if anything in like 3/4 days and is now breathing rapidly. Did I just get unlucky with this one?

We’ll need some more info to help.. What are your current parameters? a picture and or video might also help diagnose the issue

What did you use to cycle the tank? Looks like it may not be fully ready if nitrite is registering and almost 0 nitrate

Welcome to the forum!
API is known for its misreads, but given that you’re reading positive ammonia and nitrite, your tank is not yet cycled.
It’s possible there is a disease issue at play, but based on the params, water quality would be my first guess.
Can you attach the video as a YouTube link? External attachments don’t always work.

How did you cycle the tank? Were fish added right away?
Cycled with nitrifying bacteria daily for about 3 weeks. On day 3 of seachem prime doses. Fish were not added until end of third week. LFS took my water sample and said I was good to go.

Be mindful of your feedings as well. Any food you add will increase the ammonia and nitrites since it looks like your tank is not cycled yet. Make sure you're not overfeeding at this point.

When to mix up fish meal: When was the last time you tried a different brand of food for your reef?
