Work at a pet store but need info on a 40 gallon breeder tank & what to do about a sump. How do I get it drilled? Where do I go? Tips & advice welcome, ty!!
Save money and time. Don’t haul your tank all the way to the store to have it drilled. Use our diamond coated glass drill bits. Drilling glass is actually pretty easy with the correct tools. Diamond coated drill bits will allow you to drill a hole where ever you need in non-tempered glass for...
Welcome to reef2reef! The first thing you should do is determine whether or not the glass is tempered. Tempered glass will shatter if you try to drill it. Maybe a local pet store will drill it? If not, you could drill it by following instructions on a YouTube video. OR if you are too nervous with drilling, you could try a hang-on-the back overflow.
Also from the metro Detroit area here, so welcome! There are videos online on how to drill tanks. Requires a drill with diamond bit, putty and some water. If tank is tempered glass then can't drill it. If a sump is something you have to have then a hang on the back overflow or a different tank will be required.
What up Detroit? Welcome to the reef. Search the threads and forums. There are a ton of different builds and sump ideas for 40’s. Someone already posted about drilling. I have never done it, but it looks fairly straightforward once you decipher if the glass is tempered.
Welcome to Reef2Reef!!! One low cost option for a sump is a 20g long to go with a 40 breeder. A glass shop should be able to drill it for you (if it isn't tempered glass) or you may reasonably be able to do it yourself. Good luck with whatever you decide!
