I would personally handle that issue with waterchanges in a tank that small.

And yes, make sure you have some po4 otherwise your coral will suffer

I tried with water changes alone and the algae was still out of control. There's still some po4 in there because gha is still growing, tho much less now. Once it's gone I'll probably have a small level. Plus the fish food will add phosphates too. Thanks everyone for your help!

Ok my phosphate is reading zero so I know the reactor is working but I also know there's still phosphate in the tank because the gha is still growing, although much less. I added half the amount of phosban to get started. Should I add the other half because there's still algae??

Reading zero with which kit? What is the next higher reading?

Hanna checker. Next highest reading is 0.01ppm

I'd keep at that level. There may be phosphate locally on the rock that the algae is able to get.

That would be my guess. The rocks are probably leaching phosphate still because I had such a horrible phosphate problem for so long after it crashed. The nerite snails are eating it and I brush some of it off. I guess it will go away in time.

Yes, it will eventually go away if you keep the tank phosphate level low.

Well...the gha is gone! But interestingly enough, my phosphates went up to 0.05ppm. I'm guessing it was always that but the gha was consuming it before. I have the prescribed dose of GFO in my reactor. The tank looks great otherwise. So what should I do? Change the GFO more often? I think the current batch has been in there about 2 weeks. Water changes? Any other suggestions?
