Just got in my first shipment of GFO its BRS 1lb container. I have a 55g with a 13G sump. I am going to run it in a phosban 150 reactor. How much should I use?
All of it? Half? I am trying to eliminate cyano and hair algae.

I would follow the the recommended dosage as per directions. Lowering phosphates too quickly is not advised. Can you tell us your other water parameters? These nuisance algae's can be caused by other issues.

All parameters are in check. Nitrates are between 5-10 and phosphates show up as 0 on the API kit. Not ammonia or nitrites. Cal is 450 magnesium around 1200 and alk around 9. I added some more crabs to hopefully eat the hair algae and decreased lighting schedule down to 8 hours. Also decreased feeding to every other day. It says 1 cup will treat 64 gallons so I'll start with that

For some unknown reason BRS recommends twice as much as every other vendor. I prefer to follow Two Little Fishies (Phosban) reccomendations and start with 5 grams per 10 gallons or one level teaspoonfull for each 20 gallons of tank volume. Maximum full dosage is 10 grams per 10 gallons or one spoonfull per 10 gallons after the initial acclimation period of several weeks so you do not shock the system and cause bleaching and unhappy soft corals.
