Picked up this used marine land 29gal aio and it currently has a bio wheel and shotty media basket that I plan to take out leaving it basically

Chamber 1: overflow
Chamber 2: empty
Chamber 3: empty
Chamber 4: return pump

I’m used to my innovative marine Nuvo 15 that only has 3 chambers and the media basket is totally different. If this was your build, what would you do for each chamber? Run a fuge or nano skimmer? Get a custom caddy similar to inTank?

Fowlr or reef?

My priorities would be

1. Heater
2. Mechanical filtration
3. Fuge
4. Skimmer

You’re right, I should’ve specified that. Reef tank with mostly softies, some LPS, no SPS. Stock list so far is 2 black photon clowns, a tail spot blenny, royal gramma and skunk cleaner shrimp and possibly a sand sifting goby in the future. I’m worried a fuge and skimmer would be overkill given the bio load

I have run fuges in 12g with success.

Same with a skimmer in a 29g.

Keep it simple.

Chamber 1: overflow + mechanical filtration/filter floss
Chamber 2: heater + additional biomedia
Chamber 3: nano skimmer (set on a timer + any chemical filtration (carbon, etc.)
Chamber 4: return pump
