Is it ok to have the exit/return pipes for the sump at the same side of the aquarium?

Was wondering if it is ok. Because if one each side, just takes too much additional space on both sides.

Having both pipes on one side seems economical. But will there be a problem where both in and out are from same side? Will it bother the fish?

It's probably not the best design, but it can work OK.

It’s how I run one of my tanks. Corner overflow on the 2/3 side corner with the return aimed at the 1/4 side corner.

All single overflow, mass market tanks are set up that way.
