Hi there,

There’s been this growth on my goni two days in a row. In the water, it has a cloudy milky white appearance but seems more translucent out of the water. It’s growing over live goni polyps. I cleaned it off the other day and dipped it in reef primer. But when I got back from work last night, it regrew almost to almost the same size.

The frag is surrounded entirely by other Gonis and Alveopora— none of which have that growth.

What is this and what should I do about it? Thanks all.

No, by “live” I meant “not dead”, ie, the polyps in the photos fluoresce and have extension when it’s not late at night or early morning when the lights are off (it’s not a lot of extension but pretty certain it is a bernardpora instead of a goni).

Edit: “Live”, however, is not inconsistent with “dying” as indicated below.

Looks like a bacterial feast eating necrotic flesh and smothering the coral as it goes.

Iw. The polyps are still there. But I’ll throw it in a bath of various dips and cross my fingers.
I would use cipro in the tank to get rid of it if it was in my tank, assuming it is bacteria.

Iodine dip would be the other option for antibacterial treatment. Other dips might not address bacteria so much as hitchhikers and I don’t see any bugs that are causing the problem.
