Is this BJD or melting from a sting?

Hi! Need some assurance that what I’m seeing is Brown Jelly. This torch had been moping yesterday - tentacles hanging down like a Weeping Willow tree. Today, it looks all melty and the tissue on the skeleton is all gooey. The mucus coming off of the polyp is bright green like the color of the polyp itself & there is a patch of what looks like BJD to me.
I’ve had this torch for about 2 months… bummer!
Should I do a tank wide Cipro treatment? I have a ton of other Euphyllia.

i don't believe this to be BJD(however, i could be wrong), but it could potentially be RTN/polyp bailout. iodine or cipro could help stop or reverse whatever it is going through.

any other torches showing signs of this? anything close by that could sting it? (i see other torches around it). what fish/invertebrates do you have? tank parameters?

It’s pretty much only surrounded by other torches and most look good except the other green torch that’s looking pretty ticked right next to it, but that one just looks more like someone brushed it or something. All the torches are at least 2-3” apart. The RFA below the torch garden has not moved at all since it planted itself there a month or so ago.

Fish are all reef safe - Tomini tang, Yellow tang, Adorned wrasse, Leopard wrasse, Blue Dot Jawfish, Mandarin Dragonet, Purple Firefish, 2 Springeri damsels & 2 Clowns that never leave their anemone which is 2 feet away. Inverts - Cleaner shrimp, Fire shrimp, 8 Sexy shrimp, 3 pincushion urchins, Halloween hermit, other random hermit crabs and snails.

Parameters:
Salinity 1.026 Hanna
Temp 77.7 Apex
NO3 35.7 Hanna
PO4 0.57 Hanna (higher than I’d like - working on it but it’s been around here for a long time)
Calcium 465 Salifert
Mag 1425 salifert
Alk 7.2 Salifert (working on this too)
pH 7.96 Apex

If I do a Cipro treatment, am I correct with a dosage of 0.125mg/1ML?

Wrong dosage

.125mg/LITER

From the article:
I used Ciprofloxacin at 0.125 mg / L. To achieve this I dissolved a 500 mg pill in 50 ml of RODI water, producing a 10 mg / ml solution (which I subsequently stored in the fridge). The aquarium system has 70 gal volume altogether (~265 L), so I added 3.3 ml of this solution to achieve 0.125 mg / L. I repeated this dose every 2 days for 3 doses altogether.

Oh my goodness, thank you for noticing my typo!! I literally just reread that article too but I keep notes on testing results and dosing in my phone and I think it autocorrected 1L to 1ML.

I have seen another thread where the dosage is recommended every day for 5 days instead of every other day for 6 days. Any thoughts on that?
I have been thinking about the Cipro treatment regardless on this tank because I have so many Euphyllia and I recently lost a Duncan to BJD and I have added a few new Euphyllia.

Sadly, I’ve seen it before but I usually don’t realize until it’s already looking like that. I thought maybe this was at the very start while it’s still salvageable.
I had this jump several hammers and Duncans over the course of about 5 months. It would completely engulf the frag as in the video within 24 hours. I relocated several into isolation tank and treated with a variety meds including cipro. They all died complely with only skeleton remaining in 24 - 46 hours. Really no rhyme or reason I could discern. I would lose one then not see the BJ anywhere in the tank for a couple of weeks when it would show back up and consume another. It would engulf one frag and leave another frag just beside it untouched. In my case, cipro was totally ineffective.

I’m so sorry to hear that! I hope that Cipro can help in my case as I think I have the same issue you were having. I did cut two entire polyps off of one of my torches about 2 1/2 months ago from what I thought was BJD too. I had forgotten about it until now. Fingers crossed!!

Did you have a thread on what you’d tried?

I did not create a thread. I tried iodine, hydrogen peroxide, cipro and CoralRx. I suctioned off the jelly mass only to have it return in full in a few hours. Nothing slowed it down.

I had BJD 3 weeks ago. This stuff worked wonders. The dose is spot on. I kept my mix in the fridge for the week. Vet gave me enough pills for an apocalypses.

Well, that went downhill faster than I expected. The torch has been removed. :(
