Last week - I was cleaning the plenum (flush water through some of the down going pipes) Did the mistake to let the "bad" water come out in the aquarium. It looks like it was pure DOC - got an huge bacteria growth at some LPS and my mushrooms did not feel good. Stop the DOC dose and today i measured the NO3 in the aquarium - 23.6 Hanna High NO3 checker. When the accident happens - it was 3.5, Most of the LPS seems to manage, damage on them but maybe survive and repair themselves. I start the DOC again but half the former dose.

I think every bad incident on my system ever has started with that phrase: I was trying to clean/fix something I had been ignoring.

True

I had to stop the DOC dose for 6 days - what happen´s - Right - NO3 rise from around 3 to nearly 24 mg/L, Start dosing again (today 21 ml/day) - NO3 after 7 days - 9 mg/L. Today I dose 1.8 ml/2 hour

NO3 today

1686728126137.png

I did measurements both with Hanna High NO3 checker and their Low NO3 checker. Result 0.7 and 1.66. I would say that their high NO3 checker is good enough for normal measurements if its accuracy of ± 2 mg/L is included in the calculations. I will compare these meters with an Oceamo analysis later this month. My NO2 (Hanna checker ULR Nitrite) is around 0,02 mg/L NO2 (converted from 6 ppb NO2-N)

Is your tank still 300 liters? What are your current fish inhabitants? Also if you do not mind me asking, what is your average depth of your sand bed in the main tank?

Thanks Lasse, just when I thought I had too many fish in my 80 gallon you prove I can definitely add more.

PO4 - I´m not really trust my ULR phosphate meter - read the measurements with this in mind - or it may indicate something. Still the same amount of rather new GFO

I still not know if I can relay on my Hanna ULR - have had problem with it before. But if this trend shows up to be a rising trend (and decreasing when I start to dose DOC again) - theories may need to be changed

27/6 measurements will be compared with measurements from Oceamo. I´m waiting for that analyse

Get the result from Oceamo - as I suspected - it shows a lower PO4 27/6 (0.14 was 0.22 in Hanna) compared with my measurements - but still there has been a rise.

Interesting to see if PO4 will decrease when I start dosing DOC again

Oceamos and Hanna High NO3 was rather alike 11.94 and 12.90. Oceamo nitrite 0.089 - Hanna ULR 0.039

Interesting - it seems like 12 ml DOC a day take care of the new produced NO3 - but not the old ones. Keep this dosage one day more

It looks like the amount of added carbon dose is enough to zero out NO2, but I'm not 100% sure if we're looking at a trend larger than the uncertainty in the measure or not. Is the color formed in the test kit clearly different, or maybe noise?

It could be noise - as in the NO2 measurements - that´s the reason why I will dose the same amount during next 24 hours. To judge if it is a trend or not - need to take a couple of more measurements with the same dosage of DOC.

Historical - I need to double the dose in order to have a steady and fast decrease of NO3. What I have add in this run is NO2 and PO4 measurements. I´m very interested how the PO4 measurements will look like when I increase the DOC dose
