Since corals are out of the picture for me I want to add in some macros like blue hypnea and dragon's breath to give some color to my scape. What kinds of things should I take into account in terms of water parameters and lights to make sure everything stays healthy and grows well? Also placement wise do macros normally go in areas with higher or lower flow, or does it not matter?

I place macros in low flow areas, but they can handle (and may like) more once they have attached to something. You just need to have enough available nitrogen and phosphate, as well as trace element supplementation.
