I ran my last tank with a refugium and had a load of LPS along with some algee. My new tank I have started watching parameters and running 2 nyos media reactors one with gfo/carbon and the other with bio pellets and I also have and algee scrubber running. My question is there any evidence that the refugium does better all the other gimmicks that I have above I never tested in my old tank and have the occasional algee out break but at the moment if it was for my tangs there would be algee everywhere. So fuge or not to fuge that is the question

I have had great success with fuges. Currently I do not even run a skimmer. To be fair however, I keep ornamental macroalgae in both the display and the fuge. Also my display and fuge have rock and sand which contributes to the biofilter but everything works very effectively to keep the tank balanced along with a small (5% or so) water change monthly. Here is a pic of the display.
